Makati bus bombers out of metro but still in Luzon: police

POLICE authorities said Sunday bombers of a passenger bus in Makati City last week may have already slipped out of Metro Manila but they are still in Luzon.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Avelino Razon Jr. said they did not locate the three bombers of RRCG bus license plate TWR-364 in the addresses given by the witnesses whey they conducted the raid for the past three days.

Razon however said they are conducting chasing operations and assured the public that the bombers would be arrested soon.

"We have ongoing operations at present in connection with the revelation given to us by our witness and our operatives are on stake out in different areas so we could arrest the suspects who have been identified," he said.

The NCRPO chief refused to say the areas where the operations are being conducted as he said this may jeopardize their operations.

Asked as to the statement of Francisco, who surrendered to the police that he helped make the bomb in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City prior to the bus explosion last February 14, Razon described Francisco as credible.

"We cannot just take the statement of walk-in information. We interviewed him at the Intelligence Group and we verified his statements and we also checked his background and it turned out that this person, in the past, helped our PNP," he said.

Razon refused to give further details of the operations or the identity of the witness as he said information that were earlier revealed in public have somehow affected the ongoing operations against the bombers.

"There are many details come out and this somehow compromised the operations. This is also the reason why our operatives are having difficulty making arrest," he also said.

With or without threat, Razon advised the public to remain vigilant.

He assured the public that security measures are in place to protect not only the Filipinos but also foreign visitors to prevent attacks similar to last Monday's, which were claimed by the Abu Sayyaf.

"We are assuring them that the PNP is taking action. We are pitting into place precautionary measures to safeguard not only our citizens but also foreign citizens who are visiting the Philippines," said Razon. (JFF)
