Luis Manzano joins 'Kampanerang Kuba' cast
ABS-CBN announces the selection and casting of TV personality Luis Manzano to the star-studded cast of the upcoming fantaserye "Kampanerang Kuba".
Manzano is an inspired choice for the program, as the son of filmdom's original "Kampanerang Kuba", Vilma Santos. Luis confesses that the Star for All Seasons was very excited to hear of her son's participation in the show. "She's very encouraging about the project. When I called her, the first thing I heard from her was, 'Sige, anak, kaya mo iyan. Ikaw pa, ang kulit-kulit mong tao. Kayang kaya mo iyang character na iyan,'" Manzano said.
In "Kampanerang Kuba", Manzano plays Pablo, a kargador in the village market who often gets on the wrong side of the titular character, played by Anne Curtis. "Pablo's one of those tough guys but deep inside he's a nice guy," said Manzano. "He's makulit, but he's a good person, and he's kind to the poor and the underprivileged. Except with the 'Kampanerang Kuba', because it's our destiny to always have our paths cross, but not in a good way."
Manzano sees "Kampanerang Kuba" as a big commitment, being his first dramatic job after four busy years of working as a VJ, television host, and comedy actor. "I realized a while ago that if I do join a teleserye, I'm gonna have to give my all, so that I can give justice to the role. I don't want to be in a teleserye just for the sake of having a teleserye on my resume. The project 'Kampanerang Kuba' is special," he said. "Apart from the connection to family, I'm working with a fabulous staff, with Direk Wenn Deramas and Direk Andoy Ranay leading. And of course it's an amazing cast, with Anne and everyone. So what more can you ask for in terms of an offer?"
