'Survivor: Guatemala' begins Friday on Studio 23

THE ancient ruins of the Maya empire live on through reality TV's biggest and most influential show, when the international hit "Survivor" begins its 11th series entitled "Survivor: Guatemala" on Friday.

Studio 23 will air the live US satellite feed at 1 p.m., with primetime airings the same evening at 8 p.m., right after "Wazzup Wazzup".

It's an all-new, backstabbing ballgame for the 18 new castaways of the season, as "Survivor" abandons the usual deserted island locale for some historic new digs: the ruins of the Maya empire in Guatemala. On an exclusive preview on the last few moments of "Survivor: Palau", host Jeff Probst announced that "Survivor: Guatemala" would be the first time the castaways would be living inside the ruins of a vanquished civilization. Moreover, Probst said the castaways would be "forced to embrace the ancient Maya lifestyle" - but left the details tantalizingly quiet.

The new location is indeed unique, and boasts of a twin pyramid complex, nine acropolis and more than 500 structures at Guatemala's Yaxha National Park. The locale might also be a bit dangerous - the park sits at the edge of crocodile-infested Lake Yaxha.

Will "Survivor: Guatemala" change the way the world has learned to outwit, outplay and outlast? Find out when Studio 23 airs the live satellite premiere on Friday at 1 p.m. (PR)
