Florida beats Aquinas in San Juan cage tilt

FLORIDA Institute of San Juan sent Aquinas School reeling to its second straight loss, 80-66 and in the process gained the top spot at the end of the single round eliminations of the 4th San Juan Inter-High School basketball tournament at the San Juan Gym held last Saturday.

Florida Institute closed out its sked with a 5-1 record while Aquinas, which led for most part of the tournament, dropped into a three-way tie for second place at 4-2 with Philippine Chen Kuang High and defending champion San Juan National High School.

Despite losing to Philippie Chen Kuang in the other game, 59-53, San Juan National High grabbed second spot and a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis just like Florida Institute because of a superior plus-26 quotient. Phil Chen Kuang was third with minus 2 while Aquinas School had minus 24.

Florida Institute meets Aquinas while San Juan national High takes on Philippine Chen Kuang in the semis needing only one win to advance into the winner-take-all Finals of the tournament organized by former PSC commissioner and now San Juan Vice Mayor Leonardo "Boy' Celles.
