'Maalaala Mo Kaya' celebrates host's birthday with 'golden' episode
ACTING powerhouses Gina Alajar and Michael de Mesa reunite on-screen for the first time in years with a very special presentation Thursday by the multi-awarded drama anthology "Maalaala Mo Kaya".
The episode, which features the winner of the search by "Maalaala Mo Kaya" for a the story of a couple celebrating 50 years of marriage, is a birthday offering from series host Charo Santos-Concio, who turns 50 years old this month. In fact, the idea of featuring the story of a golden couple was suggested to the "Maalaala Mo Kaya" team by Charo herself, as a way of making the particular episode a more personal offering for herself and the anthology's team.
The very special offering, directed by award-winner Jeffrey Jeturian and written by Arlene Tamayo, co-stars Aiza Marquez and Bernard Palanca as the young version of the couple, and Perla Bautista and Dante Rivero as the couple in their older years. The story takes us on a touching journey shared by Teng (Aiza Marquez) and Caloy (Bernard Palanca), two teenagers who got married in 1955, when she was 16 and he was 18. With both having very slim prospects for the future, everyone around them thought their marriage wouldn't last.
But even though their marriage lasted five decades, it would be naïve to assume Teng and Caloy didn't weather their own share of rocky periods and disappointments. From financial difficulties to betrayals to even the death of several of their children, Teng and Caloy's lives bear lessons in fortitude, sacrifice, and above all, the power of a vow to love, cherish and honor one another in sickness and in health, 'til death do they part.
Golden birthday girl Charo Santos-Concio shares a golden story of love through the years in a very special edition of "Maalaala Mo Kaya" airing on Thursday, only on ABS-CBN. (PR/ABC-CBN/Sunnex)
