Editorial: Worth emulating

THE story of the extraordinary good deed of 12-year-old Cristina Bugayong was like fresh air, a ray of sunlight through the gloom.

Despite the very tempting circumstances wherein she could have kept and spent what she found, Cristina, a student of the Tomas Morato Elementary School, returned at least P300,000 worth of money and checks to its rightful owner last Friday.

For the act, the Department of Education is giving Cristina a plaque of recognition. It is on top of the numerous incentives and rewards from grateful individuals like a scholarship offer from a computer school and a computer package from a grateful owner of the money.

A television station is reportedly giving the Bugayong family a sari-sari store package to enable them to have a regular source of income.

Good deeds indeed deserve a reward and recognition. We hope that there are more people out there like Cristina.
