Rejection prompts unwed mothers to resort to abortion: study
THE fear of getting ostracized or being declared an outcast is the most common reason why many unmarried and pregnant women prefer to undergo abortion.
This was the result of a 2002 to 2004 survey conducted by the Prolife Philippines in its bid to understand deeper why many Filipino women resort to abortion.
Based on the Pregnancy Counseling Services report released by the group showed that from 2002 to 2004, 9,510 females sought their assistance and asked for counseling and that even after being despite being advised against resorting to abortion, 231 proceeded with aborting their pregnancy.
"These women and even men thought of resorting to abortion due to fear of being rejected by their parents," the Prolife report added.
Aside from the fear of rejection, another reason cited by those who commit abortion said they are incapable of becoming parents and raising children.
The Department of Health (DOH) said abortion in the country is rampant with 400,000 cases are recorded annually.
Prolife also revealed that 75 women who had their unborn child aborted suffered "post abortion syndrome". (MSN/Sunnex)
