Poll body wants to know which Liberal Party bloc to recognize
WITH the Liberal Party (LP) broken into two factions because of an internal squabble among its officials, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Benjamin Abalos said they want to determine the legitimate bloc.
"For purposes of determining which party to accredit in the next elections, we would like to know the selection of the party officials," Abalos said.
Abalos said they have not received any petition or complaint yet from ousted LP president Senate President Franklin Drilon saying, "all we have is a letter dated March 2 essentially notifying us" of what would take place at the Manila Hotel.
Manila Mayor Joselito "Lito" Atienza last week called all Liberal Party members to a workshop on governance but the workshop turned into a national assembly and resulted in the election of the new party leaders.
But Drilon and his supporters said the March 2 election was "illegal" because the Atienza faction used government funds illegally. (MSN/Sunnex)
