Communist group accuses military of 'faking' rebel statement
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on Tuesday said a supposed rebel document, purportedly proving the communist movement's hand in the killing of militants, was fabricated by the military.
CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said the existence of the forged document entitled "Paglilinis ng Bushfire sa mga Nakakapasok na mga Ahente ng Kaaway (Purging the Bushfire of Infiltrators from the Government)" is being peddled by National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales.
The document was reportedly recovered by elements of the military's Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) in Tagkawayan town, Quezon province. The existence of the document was first made public last week by Solcom spokesman Jose Broso.
Broso said the document, which he said emanated from the CPP leadership, proves that the spate of killings of leftist leaders and members were aimed at cleansing the ranks of the communist movement and of legal organizations of suspected military spies.
Rosal denied that the document came from the CPP, calling it the "newest lie fabricated by the Armed Forces of the Philippines", noting that the military has been desperately linking the CPP and its armed wing, the New People's Army, to the killings even before the recovery of the supposed document.
"The Arroyo regime's psy-war spin doctors have in fact been so busy churning up one lie after another that they can't even get their stories straight," said Rosal, adding that the document is being fanned out by Gonzales.
The CPP and a number of left-leaning groups have pointed at the military as behind the killing of over a hundred activists since President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo assumed power in 2001 but the Armed Forces leadership flatly denied the accusation. (VR/Sunnex)
