Authorities confiscate fake computer equipment
THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has seized an estimated P4.8 million worth of counterfeit computer networking hardware in three separate raids in Pasig, Manila and Quezon City.
Jose Justo Yap, chief of the NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division, said the raids held last Wednesday stemmed from the complaints lodged by Cisco Technology Inc., which claimed that the erring establishments were peddling fake Cisco computer hardware.
NBI agents confiscated 134 units of hardware from Leverage System Technologies Inc., located at the 27th floor of Orient Square building along F. Ortigas Avenue (formerly Emerald Avenue) in Ortigas Center, Pasig; iGlobe Technology Marketing Corporation located at U-K Gilmore Commercial Plaza in New Manila, Quezon City; and Columbia Technologies Inc. in J. Nakpil Street, Malate, Manila.
The raiding teams swooped down the establishments and confiscated the fake hardware composed of Network interface cards, Router, switch and cables, boxes and plastic packaging bearing unauthorized reproductions of the trademarks and copyright owned by Cisco Technologies Inc.
Prior to the raids, operatives conducted surveillance on the computer hardware stores.
After confirming Cisco's report, the NBI then applied for a search warrant, which was issued by Executive Judge Antonio Eugenio Jr. of Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 24.
Violation of Republic Act (RA) 8293 or the Copyright Infringement, Unfair Competition and Trademark Infringement Act will be filed against the owners of the establishment. (ECV/Sunnex)
