Inclement weather to batter metro until Friday: disaster body
DEFENSE Secretary Avelino Cruz Jr. said on Wednesday that bad weather in Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon is expected to persist in the next two days as tropical storm Florita intensified and enhanced the southwest monsoon while moving towards Taiwan.
Cruz, who also chairs the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC), said a gradual improvement in the weather condition is expected by late Saturday.
Malacañang suspended classes in all levels and in government offices in Regions I, II, III, IV, VI, the Cordilleras and Metro Manila.
Cruz said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ordered the monitoring of the rains and the early announcement of possible suspension of classes and work to prevent people from being inconvenienced.
He said Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) executive director Glenn Rabonza is monitoring the landslide in Baguio City where two persons have died. (JMR/Sunnex)
