Villar, chairman of the Senate finance committee, said the launching of the “Go Negosyo Campaign Teen Edition” program of DepEd will help in providing a long-term solution to the country’s economic woes, particularly in the labor and employment sector.

“Let us support the entrepreneurial education program of the DepEd, so that it will be fully incorporated in the school curricula of all schools. I hope the pilot-test will be successful and will be well received by the students as well,” the senator said.

The entrepreneurship program will have a pilot test in both elementary and high schools whose lessons will be incorporated in the existing curricula of the students such as values education, technology and livelihood subjects.

Villar has a pending measure in the Senate, Senate Bill (SB) 509, seeking to include entrepreneurship in the schools’ curriculum to teach students venture in business.

The Entrepreneurial Education Promotion Act will guide students in learning the principles of the free enterprise and encourage students to pursue entrepreneurship. Possible lessons include business formation and operation, marketing, finance, management, tax and fiscal policies and investment capital.

“Entrepreneurial education infused in our school system would remove the old archetype of Philippine schools preparing students to be employees. Entrepreneurial education should start at the earliest level,” he said.

Villar, a businessman, believed that engaging in business among new graduates will resolve unemployment and underemployment. “We need more job providers. New generation of entrepreneurs can create jobs for more Filipinos,” he added. (REC/Sunnex)
