Cinema One premieres 'Ang Anak ni Brocka'
THE acclaimed digital film "Ang Anak ni Brocka" lands for the first time on cable TV on Cinema One's Sunday Cine Premiere on August 13 at 8 p.m.
Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez's dramatic and satirical documentary is one of the six chosen films in the first Annual Cinema One Originals digital film festival. It had its international premiere at the 42nd Pesaro International Film Festival in Italy last June along with eight other full-length works and 18 short films from the Philippines.
Nonie Buencamino, Jacklyn Jose, Gina Alajar, Bembol Roco, Angie Ferro, Jeffrey Quizon, Joonee Gamboa, Chanda Romero, Soxy Topacio, Menggie Cobarrubias, Geoff Eigenmann, Nanding Josef, Allan Paule, Timothy Diwa, Francis Magalona, Behn Cervantes, and Philip Salvador highlight Sanchez's masterpiece. This also features the talent of stage actors Shamaine Centenera, Soliman Cruz, Roence Santos and indie artists Raul Morit, Rapunzel Hernandez, Aurora Yumul, Archie Adamos, Bombi Plata, Ickay Eusebio, Adrian Ramirez, Ronald Tupas, Kris Lanot Lacaba, Sarah Medina, Paolo O'Hara, Philip Mendez, Ram Tolentino, Anvi Nuval, David Mejia, and Miguel Pancho.
The plot revolves around a group of investigative journalists who wanted to make a difference in their field. When they almost give up, they score a controversial scoop when they find a 20-year-old boy claiming to be the son of the late National Artist for Film Lino Brocka. When they have started gathering data to verify this, they discover a lot of things about the late filmmaker - much more than they expected.
Armed with their video cameras, that become part of the story, the group goes around in search for clues and asking people if they might have come across a young man named "Onil" who claims he is the son of Brocka. Further, it features interviews with Direk Lino's family members, friends, associates, actors and actresses he groomed.
The film also delves deeper into the life of the National Artist for Film. It features not only Lino Brocka as a respected person but also exposes his flaws, that he is not a superhero or a saint as what others would like to paint him.
Mara Benitez's exceptional cinematography even adds to the film's high quality.
