ABS-CBN, Viva sign 'Pedro Penduko' pact
ABS-CBN executives Cory V. Vidanes and Deo Endrinal recently signed a contract with Viva Entertainment head Vic del Rosario for the rights to the Tagalog comics serial "Pedro Penduko," which will be produced by ABS-CBN as a miniseries for the anthology program "Komiks". The miniseries' official title will be "Komiks Presents: Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko" and will star Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition standout Matt Evans in the title role.
Viva Entertainment produced the successful film version starring Janno Gibbs in 1994 and 2000 although it was originally filmed in 1973 by director Celso Ad Castillo with Ramon Zamora as star. It is based on the 1954 serial written by Francisco V. Coching, who is considered the dean of Filipino illustrators and the dean of Filipino comics.
"'Pedro Penduko' was a very successful property for us in the movies, and I am very happy that it's coming to TV," said del Rosario. "It's always been very popular with members of the entire family, so I'm sure that it will be a very successful now that it's being translated to the TV screen by ABS-CBN," he added. (Press release)
