Cagayan de Oro hosts Pimentel darts cup

THE country's finest darters will shoot for the prestigious singles title at stake in the much awaited National Singles Championship (NSC) '06-Senator Aquilino "Nene" Pimentel Jr. Cup on August 25 to 27 at the Sports Zone along T. Saco Street in Cagayan de Oro City.

The NSC '06, a ranking and rating event, is organized by the Darts Council of the Philippines (DCP), the only governing body of darts in the country and recognized by the World Darts Federation (WDF).

NSC '06, the second of a series of DCP's major tournaments this year, is supported by the office of Senator Pimentel, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor), Terton Craft, Winmau Darts, Toby's Sports, San Miguel Beer, Hotel Conchita and hosted by Cagayan de Oro Darters.

The tournament serves as a cut-off event for darters aspiring to make it to the national pool where members of the RP Team for the WDF-Asia Pacific Cup 2006 in Malaysia on September 19 to 24 will be selected and trained through a series of tough eliminations on September 2 to 4.

The competition will kick off with a classified doubles game on August 25 at 7 p.m. The novice-non-rated singles and the open doubles will be played on the second day at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively. The open singles for men and women will be showcased on the final day starting at 10 a.m.

Registration for each event starts an hour before game time. For inquiries, contact DCP director Steve Dorotheo at 0917 8161001 and CDO host Lyndon Butron at 0920 9274456. (Press release)
