Senior Superintendent Arsenio Pinacate, director of the Palawan provincial police office, identified the fatalities as Rogelyn, 15; Yoga, 13; Royko, 10; and three-year-old Marriane, all surnamed Caruke and children of a Japanese married to a Filipina.

Pinacate said the fire started at the Caruke residence in Purok Sampaguita, Barangay Mandaragat in Puerto Princesa City at around 1:40 a.m. Investigators were still determining what caused the blaze where were the parents of the children at the time of the fire.

The fire immediately spread to at least 11 houses, also injuring Danilo Eleazar. Sixteen families were rendered homeless in the incident, according to Pinacate.

Police said responding firefighters put off the fire four hours later. The four fatalities were burned beyond recognition. (VR/Sunnex)
