Arroyo to meet Bush in Vietnam
PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will have a bilateral meeting with US President George W. Bush during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in Vietnam.
Arroyo will have bilateral meetings with Bush and the leaders of Chile, Russia, Canada and Vietnam on November 18. The Apec summit will be held on November 17 to 19.
Arroyo will leave Manila in November 17. After the summit, she will go to Singapore to meet with some businessmen. She returns to Manila on November 20 in time for a conference and exhibit on medical tourism.
US Ambassador Kristie Kenney said Thursday that the two leaders will have “a lot to talk about.” The issues could include economic development and strong cooperation against terrorism in the Philippines or regional issues such as North Korea’s nuclear testing and the Philippines’ chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) this year, Kenne added. The Asean summit will be held in Cebu next month.
“I expect that they’ll have a lot to talk about and I know they’ll enjoy talking as they always do,” she said.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said the strategic partnership of the Philippines and the US “will remain steadfast and firm” as they have “withstood the test of time and have been built through the generations.”
“They will continue to be so, regardless of the partisan landscape in each of the two countries. The Philippine-American alliance is anchored on the overall platform of world peace, prosperity and democracy,” Bunye said. (JMR/Sunnex)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star General Santos.
