The Philippine delegation to this year’s Olympiad was composed of 17 primary school students from public and private schools. They were accompanied by Dr. Aurea Sto. Domingo, schools division superintendent of Antipolo City, and their parents and trainers.
Education Secretary Jesli A. Lapus commended the Filipino students for their performance at the event, which was held at the Hotel Nikko Jakarta last month.
“This shows our children’s enormous potentials in Math and Science,” Lapus said. “And I am sure many of the Filipino boys and girls will follow their lead by bringing glory to our country in other international competitions,” he added.
The Philippine Team received two gold medals, one silver medal and four bronze medals in Science. In Mathematics category, the Philippines garnered two silver and two bronze medals and a trophy for Best Exploration.
Aside from the Philippines, other countries that participated in the Olympiad were Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Nigeria, Vietnam and Indonesia.
The competition was organized by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia and opened to primary school students from Asean and invited countries. Imso aims to improve competencies in Mathematics and Science between participating countries. (Press release)
