Labor Undersecretary Danilo Cruz announced the move following the recently concluded four-day command conference of heads of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (Polos). Cruz however did not say where the two Polos are.
“I cannot specifically name them yet,” said Cruz, adding that the two offices are in the list of units set for assessment.
Cruz said Labor Secretary Arturo Brion ordered an “assessment and evaluation” of more than 100 Polos in more than 180 countries where there are Filipino workers.
He said the assessment will take into consideration per capita income, deployment rate as well as the performance in terms of response to the distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
“If they will be found based on the assessment as non-performing, then we will decide,” he said.
But while there are two Polos that would be shut down, Brion said they are set to open two Polos in Australia and in the Caribbean.
He said the opening of a Polo in Australia was due to the growing demand for Filipino nurses and caregivers as well as other skilled workers in that country. (MSN/Sunnex)
