Marcos lawyer among five 'early birds' as senatorial candidates

A LONG-time lawyer of the Marcos family and a man who claims to be the husband of actress television host Kris Aquino are among the first five persons to file their certificates of candidacy for senator in the May 14 elections.

Lawyer Oliver Lozano was among the first five candidates. Lozano is running again for senator under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL), the political party of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.

Lozano said he received the blessing of former first lady Imelda Marcos to run for senator.

Aside from Lozano, broadcaster Mel Chavez also filed his candidacy under the KBL party, who said that his motivation for running in this year's elections is "to test the claimed credibility of the Comelec."

Daniel Magtira, who claimed he is the husband of actress/television host Kris Aquino, daughter of former President Corazon Aquino, also filed his candidacy for senator. He said he is a rocker/composer.

It is public knowledge though that Kris is married to professional basketball player James Yap and is in fact pregnant with their first child.

Theodore Aquino, who claims he is a nephew of the late former senator Benigno Aquino Jr., also filed his candidacy. Thedore said he is ha an international engineer by profession and is aiming to represent the 'Global Filipino."

Businessman Rummel Piñera, 35, also filed his candidacy as an independent. He said he wanted "to bring back the country's real and moral democracy."


The deadline for the filing of candidacies for national positions is on February 12. (MSN/Sunnex)
