Arroyo calls for education v. global warming
ASIDE from using alternative fuels and waste recycling, the government will push for education of people at all levels against the hazards of global warming.
This was President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's response to a UN report on global warming, adding that this is part of the government's "long-term development agenda."
Arroyo said the long-term development agenda includes caring for the environment and using clean energy.
"The Philippines itself is becoming victim to destructive storms and floods as well as sharp changes in climate -- taking heavy toll on lives, crops, and property. We must act in concert now. I call on all Filipinos to be aware of this challenge and join hands in meeting it," she said.
She also said the Cabinet will constantly keep an eye of the caveats of the UN on global warming in all government development programs.
The Philippines, she added, will "march with the world in the struggle against global warming."
"(Long-term development is) incorporated in various programs that mandate environmental protection, conservation of energy, the use of clean energy and alternative fuels, waste recycling and most of all, the education of our people at all levels," she said.
