Convergys gives funds to Sa Aklat Sisikat program

CONVERGYS Corporation has donated US$15,000 to the Sa Aklat Sisikat Foundation (SAS) to further the organization's mission to promote the love and habit of reading in Filipino children.

The SAS Reading Program is a 31-day intensive Read-A-Thon during which teachers and students have a daily reading experience and children are encouraged to read as many books as possible during the timeframe. SAS provides curriculum, activities, supplies, and 60 of the best Filipino children's storybooks to every 4th grade classroom in its program.
At the end of the 31-day Read-A-Thon, SAS places the books on a special wheeled shelf and shares with students throughout the school.

Convergys' contribution to the organization provides funding for the program in five Filipino public schools.

"Corporate citizenship, a core value at Convergys Corporation, is ever present in the minds of our employees as we collectively work to improve lives and build stronger communities," said Marife Zamora, Convergys vice president and country manager. "This investment in our community is an important step toward a brighter tomorrow for our children, families, friends, and neighbors," Zamora added.

Zamora presented the Convergys check to Celine Santillan, executive director of Sa Aklat Sisikat and Jean Alingod-Guittap, reading program manager.

To date, SAS has served 450 public elementary schools across the country, touching the lives of over 1,600 teachers and the minds of over 91,000 students.
