Thursday, February 15, 2007 Senate accedes to Arroyo's special session request
SENATE President Manuel Villar on Wednesday said the Senate will go along with Malacanang's call for a special session on Monday and Tuesday next week.
"We have no choice. We have to do it although as far as the Senate is concerned we have finished our pending work. The Lower House still has to finish and approve a number of bills on third reading. If there is no quorum, then it will just be an 'open-close' session," Villar said.
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. said he will attend the session but he doubted that a quorum could be reached as the other members of the Senate have yet to confirm their attendance.
Malacañang has called for a special session to allow for the passage of two important measures - the Human Security Act of 2007 and the Billion Trees Act.
Pimentel said that it is his duty to be there "so that nothing fishy passes through the legislative net." (CPB/Sunnex)
