Jazz VTEC media challenge awards night held

AFTER a successful eighth season, the Jazz VTEC Media Challenge held its awards night to honor this season's winners, participants and sponsors, last February 15 at the Club Horizon of the Airport Casino Filipino.

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) president and general manager Takashi Sekiguchi gave the opening speech to the crowd composed of the different represented media, namely, Business Mirror, BusinessWorld, Manila Bulletin, Manila Standard Today, Manila Times, and Philippine Star for the broadsheets; Action and Fitness, Gadgets, MetroActive, Motorcycle, Speed, and Top Gear for the glossies; RX 93.1, Heart 103.5, Dream FM 106.7, dzMM, dzRB, dzRH and dzXL for radio; Auto Extreme, Auto Review, and Motoring Today for television; and Associated Press, Cyberpress, and kotse.com for other media.

Among those feted at the ceremony were the season winners. For Class A: first place - Philippine Star(Manny de los Reyes, Lester Dizon, Andy Leuterio , Jeff Reyes); second place - Business Mirror/RX 93.1 (Jude Morte, Inigo Roces, Andy Sevilla , Tom Garcia); and third place - Manila Bulletin/Manila Times (Anjo Perez, Aris Ilagan, Brian Afuang, Aaron Favila). For Class B: first place - Top Gear Magazine (Drew Asuncion, Ferman Lao, Carmela Ortiz, Joel Paz); second place - Auto Extreme/BusinessWorld (Jaymar Feliciano, Joey Lopez, Barbara Lorenzo); and third place - Cyberpress (Melvin Calimag, Lawrence Casiraya, Jing Garcia, Joel Pinaroc). Jeff Reyes of The Philippine Star and Joel Paz of Top Gear will also receive the Best Driver Award for Class A and B, respectively.

This season's six official 1.5-liter Honda Jazz VTECs were courtesy of Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. Petron Xtra Unleaded provided the "Power for extra miles" needed in the competition. Car modifications were courtesy of Bravura, while the car stickers were by Aitech. The timing device, scoring system and website were powered by Igertech. Other sponsors include AVT-Intelligent Car Multimedia, Airborne Access, Pagcor Sports, Bosch, and Motolite.
