RP’s darters gear for showdown on Saturday

THE country’s best darters are headed for an exciting fight as the Philmasters Darts Championship (PDC) 2007 kicks off Saturday with an open doubles (draw) at 11 a.m. and a classified three-man team (draw) at 6 p.m. at the Pearl Billiards Bar in Parañaque City.

The events serve as a warm-up for the tough PDC 2007 men and women’s singles events set at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

PDC 2007 is organized by the Darts Council of the Philippines (DCP), the country’s only governing body for darts, and is recognized by the World Darts Federation. The tournament is sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission and Leroy International ADN.PHD. Also supporting the tournament are the Office of Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr., Aristeo Puyat, Terton Craft, Toby’s Sports, Winmau, and Daily C Vitamin of League of Business Builders.

PDC 2007 is a DCP ranking/ rating tournament and is a cut-off event for darters who want to qualify as national pool members from were the Philippine team for the World Cup 2007 in Amsterdam this September will be selected via a series of darts elimination set March 23 and 24 also at the Pearl Plaza.

"More than the coveted singles title and the prize money, the prospects of making the national team for the world Cup will surely motivate darters to give their best," said DCP president Andrew Arrieta.
