Airport body marks 25 years with passenger service improvement programs

THE Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) has lined up several activities and programs that will mark the celebration of its silver anniversary with the theme “Serbisyong Tama. Para sa Bansa”.

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 Coverage

Miaa general manager Alfonso Cusi sees it fit to launch, on the 26th of the month, the new Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Service Decorum in a handy guidebook entitled “Primer on Service Standards for Government and Non-government Employees”, in time for its 25th anniversary.

All government agencies and private entities operating at the Naia are expected to support the move.

Agencies holding offices at the Naia are the Bureau of Customs, Bureau of Immigration, Office of Transportation Security, Department of Transportation and Communications, Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group, Department of Tourism, Bureau of Animal Industry, Bureau of Plant Industry, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Health, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, National Bureau of Investigation, Passcor, Lanting and Watchman security agencies.

“Aside from the usual employee morale-boosting activities and community service related activities, Miaa seeks to take the opportunity to the mark this milestone event by highlighting our expertise in airport management to reinforce commitments for a dependable airport administration and excellent service that is the thrust of GM Alfonso Cusi,” said assistant general manager Tirso Serrano of airport development and corporate affairs department.

“We also pay tribute to the hard work and daily sacrifice of the men and women who help make the airports work efficiently and safely on a 24/7 basis, in terms of operational, security and all the functions in our various technical support and control areas through the years, citing of course the vision, leadership and dedication of past GMs of the Naia,” Serrano added.

The anniversary month of Miaa took off with a thanksgiving mass last March 5, 2007. Related events include the search for model employees, managers as well as outstanding projects which will run until the 27th.

This will be carried out by four selection boards as part of the MIAA Yearly Performance Awards (MYPA). The annual MYPA will be held in culminating ceremonies on March 30 at the Miaa administration grounds.

It is a performance based recognition activity that highlights the commendable work and performances of selected employees at the individual and group levels. Also given recognition are outstanding projects in various areas of airport concerns, like passenger services, safety and security measures and other management improvement and reform projects undertaken in the past year.

“Miaa has always encouraged desirable work attitudes among our workforce but the MYPA is a deliberately planned comprehensive awards recognition program that has been aggressively pursued and implemented with consultants and guest judges who help us evaluate and select the best airport workers and projects,” Cusi said.

Aside from the Naia Service Decorum program on March 26 and the MYPA Night on March 30, the Miaa administration will re-launch the Miaa website. Other activities would involve walk for a cause, blood letting with the Red Cross of the Philippines, static exhibits within the terminal complex, internal publications and some sports exhibition games.

“We would like to keep the esprit de corps of our airport workers high for them to continue actively participating in the airport development programs of General Manager Cusi and the other agencies. Together, we hope to send a message that Miaa and Naia for that matter, continues to celebrate a tradition of professionalism, competence and service. And that we possess the experience, track record and capacity, and most essentially, the enthusiasm and commitment to take a much greater challenges in the years ahead”, Serrano added.
