ILJIN Heavy Industries Company Ltd of South Korea has bagged a contract for the expansion of six substations of the National Transmission Corporation (Transco) in Mindanao.
Transco president Arthur Aguilar said the P542.2 million-agreement will cover the expansion of substations in Sta. Clara, Kibawe, Butuan, Bislig, Davao and Tindalo which are located in Bukidnon, Agusan del Norte, Surigao, Davao del Sur, Compostela Valley and Zamboanga.
"There are 21 substations in Mindanao and we will also be upgrading them as the need arises. We are following a timetable which is until 2010," Aguilar told reporters.
Based on the agreement, Iljin will supply and deliver equipment to the six substations, particularly transformers and power circuit breakers as well as provide transformers with a capacity of 50, 75, 100 and 150 megavolt-ampheres (MVA).
"These will ensure a more reliable service and faster delivery of power in Mindanao," Aguilar added.
The company will also provide nine power circuit breakers with a capacity of 138 kilovolts (kv) and 16 power circuit breakers with a capacity of 69 kv.
Meanwhile, Iljin president and chief executive officer Jungsuk Huk said they hope that they would be able to get more contracts from Transco.
