Wednesday, May 23, 2007 Tryouts for softball's Blu Girls opens
THE Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPhil) announces the opening of the tryouts for the Philippine Blu Girls team.
Girls of all ages and into softball are invited to try out at the Rosario Sports Arena, Rosario in Pasig City, Metro Manila. Interested parties are invited to proceed to the ASAPhil Secretariat Offices and look for Jun Veloso or call 628-37-41 or 0916-4938934 or look for Coach Anna Santiago.
The tryout started Tuesday and will be until Saturday everyday at 2 p.m.
Coach Anna Santiago, who was appointed as the Blu Girls national coach says, she "she plans to maintain a pool of players aside from the ones to be chosen to be part of the team, ensuring a continuous process of training in case of injuries or other problems."
Santiago is currently the coach of Adamson University girls softball team that has won the championship title of the UAAP in the last four years and has coached the Manila Team that has competed in the US World Softball Series.
ASAPhil president Jean Henri D. Lhuillier of the Cebuana Lhuillier has high hopes in forming a winning team this year.
"Our efforts for the recently completed 2007 National Softball Championships gave us a glimpse of a promising start for this year's Blu Girls. This year, we see more than 40 girls who show potential to give the country a shot at the World Softball Series," Lhuillier said.
The girls who will be chosen to join the Blu Girls and the national Blu Girls pool of prayers are expected to see action this coming August for the Asian Games Softball Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.
If the Philippine team wins the title to represent Asia after the August championships, the girls will qualify for the World Softball Championships in the US. (Press release)
