Saturday, May 26, 2007 Preschoolers in Manila hostage-taking granted free education
THE 145 daycare pupils taken hostage by their school owner on board a bus last March received educational scholarships from Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr.
Armando Ducat Jr. held hostage a busload of pupils enrolled in his day care school last March 28 during which he aired his grievances against poverty and corruption in the country.
It was Revilla who helped negotiate for the release of the hostages.
Revilla distributed educational scholarships, school supplies and snacks to the 145 pupils of the day care center
"I am keeping my word not only as a commitment to Jun Ducat but also as my pledge to help provide accessible education to all Filipinos. It is only through properly educating our people that we can ably help them to get out of poverty. I will support and pursue the passing of education related bills in the halls of Senate when the session opens next month," said Revilla.
He also said he will continue providing educational assistance to the children until they reach high school.
As for their college education, Revilla said he is coordinating with the AMA Education System on that. (CPB/Sunnex)
