Saturday, June 16, 2007 PLDT mulls buyout of Philcom
PHILIPPINE Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) is now in the thick of discussions with shareholders on the acquisition of the Mindanao-based Philippine Global Communications (Philcom) Inc.
PLDT chairman Manuel Pangilinan said aside from Philcom, they are also looking at other small telephone companies, belonging to the Philippine Association of Private Telephone Companies, Inc.
Pangilinan said if it pushes through, the acquisition will further expand PLDT’s network.
Philcom operates in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Basilan, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Misamis Oriental, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur. It also has 16 local exchanges in Cagayan de Oro, Panabo and Butuan.
Philcom offers Voice Connect Direct Access, which is dedicated to private telephone line service that provides hassle-free, instant connection to any country around the world and serves large domestic and international traffic.
They also offer Internet access, which provides customers with the required bandwidth to connect to the Internet by utilizing any form of last mile facility and wireless connection.
It also has 26 interconnection agreements with PLDT, Globe Telecoms, Smart Communications, Bayan Telecommunications, Eastern Telecoms, Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc., Eastern Telecoms, Bell Telecoms, Next Mobile and Express Telecoms.
Philcom has 16 overseas correspondent relationships with countries such as Australia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand. (MSN/Sunnex)
