Tabo-oy, Mayngo top national darts tilt

UNHERALDED Doods Tabo-oy and Rhea Mayngo pulled the rug from under their fancied opponents and topped the men’s and women’s open singles events, respectively, of the Philippine Cup Darts Championship (Philcup) 2007 held recently at the Cozy Nook Restaurant in Baguio City.

Philcup 2007 is a Darts Council of the Philippines (DCP) ranking and rating event hosted by the Baguio Darters Association and supported by Winmau Darts, Toby’s Sports, Terton Craft and San Miguel Beer.

Tabo-oy of Pugo, La Union upset DCP’s number one male player Arby Briones of Baguio City, 6-4, in the men’s open singles finals while Mayngo beat Siony Laluan, 5-3, in an all-Baguio women’s singles finals.

Tabo-oy was almost a Grand Slam winner as he started his onslaught by also winning earlier the non-rated singles title over Ching Saez of Terton Craft, 5-1, in the finals. He landed in the men’s doubles finals (with John Anisor) but lost to eventual champion Rex Balangcod and Darell Tinipac of Baguio’s Session Delight, 4-2.

Terton Dynamics won over Baguio SB, 9-8, during the men’s team of four finals. Champions in the women’s doubles were Toby’s Sports Baby Villanueva and Edna Granada, who blanked Terton’s Suzette Mercado and Rose Noble, 4-0, in the finals.

The DCP’s next big event is the national open singles championship and the San Carlos Open set July 20 to 22 in San Carlos City in Negros Occidental. (Press release)
