Press secretary's kin hurt in ambush

THREE unidentified men on motorcycles ambushed and wounded on Tuesday night the city administrator of Muntinlupa City, who is a nephew of presidential spokesman Ignacio Bunye.

Muntinlupa City Mayor Aldrin San Pedro on Wednesday said he already has an idea as to who were behind the attack on Roberto Bunye in Barangay Putatan at around 8 pm.

San Pedro told reporters they might have incurred the ire of a group of businessmen affected by the City Government's cleanup of the Alabang Viaduct of illegal structures.

Bunye is recuperating at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center for a bullet wound in the back.

Police Officer 3 Rey Quizon of the Criminal Investigation Division said Bunye was driving his Toyota Revo (SFT-520) when he was waylaid by motorcycle-riding gunmen near a covered court in Bruger Street, Barangay Putatan, a few blocks away from his residence.

Bunye's vehicle took at least 20 bullet holes. Police later recovered empty shells from caliber .45 pistols.

Quizon said the victim had just gone from the city hall when he was attacked.

San Pedro said Bunye had been receiving threats since last month but the city administrator dismissed it.

He added that he has ordered police to continuously guard Bunye in the hospital. (AH/Sunnex)
