2 ‘kidnap gang members’ nabbed

TWO suspected kidnappers who belong to the Waray-Waray Kidnap for Ransom (KFR) Group were arrested by Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (Pacer) operatives in separate operations in Pasig and Pasay cities recently.

PNP chief and Pacer head Oscar Calderon on Tuesday identified the suspects as Freeman Bagares alias Priman, and Ricardo Banaay alias Tatang.

Calderon said the two Waray-Waray KFR group members each carried a monetary reward of P250,000 for their arrest.

Bagaras was arrested in Barangay Kalawaan, Pasig City while Banaay was arrested at Manlunas Street, Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.

Both were arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for kidnapping for ransom issued by Judge Narbo Noblejas of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 69 in Binangonan, Rizal, and by Judge Norberto Quisumbing of RTC Branch 21 in Imus, Cavite. The two suspects were involved in at least 12 kidnapping incidents in Metro Manila, Rizal and Cavite provinces since 2001.

Calderon said the arrest of Bagares and Banaay was the result of police operations exerted by Pacer members.

He thanked the public for their vigilance and unselfish cooperation that through the information they have provided the PNP on the whereabouts of the suspects, the PNP has arrested 23 suspects for kidnapping-for-ransom cases, 12 were neutralized in legitimate encounters with authorities, and two surrendered.
