THE US-based lawyer-son of former Manila representative Mark Jimenez has belittled the threat by his father to have him disbarred and deported to the US for intervening in the abuse case filed by his stepmother Caroline Castaneda.
Virgilio Crespo said he could not be deported to the US because he is a certified Filipino citizen, a fact he said his father's lawyer, former Solicitor General Frank Chavez, could have overlooked.
"I have nothing to fear," Crespo snapped back at Chavez's statement, adding that he has already submitted his Philippine passports in one of the affidavits he filed in the estafa case his father had filed against him.
"I have been following the rules in my particular jurisdiction. He should know his clients, know his case, know the law and know his lawyers' oath," Crespo said.
Chavez earlier made the thread after Caroline's purported plan to have him and his entire law firm disbarred for ignoring the temporary protection order that the Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC) had issued in her favor.
Caroline filed a petition for permanent protection order against Jimenez, claiming verbal and physical abuse from the former congressman.
Chavez said it is Crespo that should be disbarred because he was his father's counsel there, in contrast to his siding with Caroline in the Taguig case.
Crespo was supposed to testify against Jimenez in last week's hearing at the Taguig RTC, which however was cut short as the Jimenez camp asked for the inhibition of the presiding judge.
Chavez added Crespo should be deported for "meddling in court cases where he's not a party." (AH/Sunnex)
