Globe offers entrepreneurs Internet café business

TARGETTING the still untapped areas in the countryside, Ayala-owned Globe Telecoms has opened its doors to potential entrepreneurs who dreamed of having their own Internet cafés.

In a statement, Globe said I-Café Kit “is design to give interested individuals a chance to start their own business and earn extra income.”

Initial cash outlay would be P150,000 for entrepreneurs availing of the Globe I-Café Kit.

“Globe has come up with two models for entrepreneurs to choose from -- the Internet Surfing and Gaming model and the Mega Gaming Model,” said the phone firm.

For the Internet Surfing and Gaming package, the initial cash outlay could go as low as P121,450 for a 1 Mbps connection while the Mega Gaming package, would require an initial capitalization of P170,750 for a one Mbps connection.

Citing the recent research conducted by Digital Filipino and Nielsen Media Research Philippines, the number of Internet users in the Philippines has more than doubled in the last three years, with 6.68 million Filipinos having gone online in 2006 as compared with 2.7 million in 2003.

The Internet café industry also continues to post increase in demand for Internet access.

At present, there are 12,000 Internet cafés scattered all over the country or an increase of 4,000 from 8,500 in 2003.

“However, since the cost of owning a personal computer (PC) is still restrictive for a large segment of the population, not to mention the additional cost of Internet access, many Filipinos turn to Internet cafés to surf the Net,” the company said.

The two business-in-a-box models boast of pre-tested I-Café solutions with appropriate PC configuration and Globe Broadband and Globelines bundles.

Aside from the Internet access, Globe will also provide marketing support such as free signage, game posters, and other merchandising materials and an additional source of revenue through its Autoload Max.

According to Globe, entrepreneurs can expect to recoup their investment within 10 to 15 months.

But for entrepreneurs with their own extra space and will supervise their Internet café the return of investment would be shorter or in six months time.
