Palace aide supports oust Trillanes move

A MALACAÑANG executive backed Saturday the prospect of ousting Antonio Trillanes IV from the Senate, saying people with "messianic complex" do not deserve to be senator.

Presidential Management Staff head Cerge Remonde said Trillanes, who now faces rebellion charges, should now face the music.

"Hindi karapat-dapat maging senador ang may messianic complex tulad ni Lieutenant Trillanes. Ang ganitong klaseng mga leader hindi kinatutuwa ng taumbayan (People with messianic complex like Lieutenant Trillanes do not deserve to be senator. This kind of leader does not make the people happy)," he said in a radio interview.

Trillanes held the rank of lieutenant senior grade when he led a short-lived mutiny at the Oakwood hotel in Makati City in July 2003.

He was jailed and charged, but won a Senate seat last May despite campaigning while under detention.

Last Thursday, Trillanes and Brigadier General Danilo Lim led a march and six-hour standoff at The Peninsula hotel in Makati, where they demanded the ouster of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

But a police assault on the hotel in the afternoon prompted Trillanes and company to surrender. The "Peninsula 50" were arrested and charged with rebellion and inciting to rebellion.

Remonde said Trillanes and company should now concentrate on facing the charges against them.

"Kailangan harapin ng grupong yan at panagutan ang pagsira nila sa imahe ng bansa at ang kasong kailangan ilaban against them (Now he and his companions must face the music and answer for the damage they caused to our nation's image)," he said.

Remonde also said Thursday's incident shows the military and police remain solid behind the Constitution and the flag. (JMR/Sunnex)
