Sunday, February 03, 2008 No names yet for civil service, audit agency posts
MALACAÑANG continued to keep close to its chest its cards on the next heads of the Commission on Audit (COA) and Civil Service Commission (CSC).
Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Cerge Remonde said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is "taking her time" to choose who will head the two constitutional bodies.
"We still don't have anything new to report. The president is taking her time to choose very well who is fit to head the sensitive posts," Remonde said.
He said there have been many recommendations for the two posts, but he declined to name who were recommended.
The COA and CSC are constitutionally independent bodies, with COA scrutinizing government spending and the CSC screening employees to the bureaucracy.
CSC chairperson Karina David stepped down from her post earlier this week, but not before lamenting that many presidential appointees may not be civil-service-qualified.
David's revelation drew flak from Malacañang, which eventually "unloaded" several presidential appointees found to be "non-performing."
Remonde admitted there were many persons recommended for the CSC and COA posts, but would not name them.
"There are so many recommendees for both positions but I cannot name names. We don't want to give false hopes to anybody," he said. (JMR/Sunnex)
