Thursday, February 21, 2008 CBCP: Interfaith prayer rally is open to all
A FORMER official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said the interfaith prayer rally scheduled on February 29 is open to everybody.
Former CBCP president and Lingayen Archbishop Oscar Cruz invited groups who are either supporters or critics of the Arroyo government to join the prayer rally since it is focused on the bishops' earlier call for communal action.
The scheduled rally will be held at the Luneta grandstand to be attended by civil society groups, students, businessmen and members of the academe.
Cruz has confirmed his attendance, adding that they also welcome politicians, who are going to attend the meeting, but warned them they their participation will only be limited as participants and not as organizer of the event.
"Their (politicians) involvement will solely be as participants, its prayer rally and not for something else," he said.
The holding of the public gathering was initiated by civil society groups in series of dialogues with church officials.
Meanwhile, Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani said communal action is the church's people way of interacting with the public to get their suggestions and reaction at the same time asking them to pray.
"Communal action is a general and open ended word," he explained.
Bacani added that it is also a process wherein they need to weigh things or issues first before deciding on them.
He cited a solid example of this situation is the People Power 1. (FP/Sunnex)
