Get real-time Palaro results online

THE Department of Education (DepEd) announced that the results of all events in the Palarong Pambansa to be held in Puerto Princesa on April 20 to 26, 2008 will be available online in the DepEd website immediately after each event -- a first in the history of Palaro's 60 years.

The DepEd website address is http://depedschoolsports.wikispaces.com.

"This is a breakthrough in making the Palaro results immediately known to those who cannot be at the venue physically," Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said.

Deogracias Genito, chairperson of the DepEd committee on information, communication and documentation, said the website posting is a big leap forward from the days when results were known only on the next day.

There will be four communication centers from which to report the results from different playing venues. These are at the Ramon Mitra Sports Complex with two and the Palawan National School and Power Zone Badminton Court with one each. The communication centers are all equipped with laptop computers with multi-media capability and Internet connectivity.

There will also be four LCD widescreens strategically located at the site for the public viewing of Palaro results.

Genito said there will be back-up power generators from the Puerto Princesa City Government to ensure continued power supply in case of power outage.

The DepEd Palaro website has a "discussion box" or feedback forum for readers views and opinions on the Palaro.

The name Palarong Pambansa was adopted only in 1976. (Press release)
