Pinoy Idol invades Luzon

AFTER scouring the south for potential aspirants, GMA-7’s highly-apprized reality talent search, Pinoy Idol, has sought prospective hopefuls up north last Saturday.

Pinoy Idol’s grand jury crossed the islands of the Visayas and Mindanao to commence its selection among contenders of all ages and descents for the grand opening of the most ambitious singing competition in the country.

Throughout the auditions, well-acclaimed judges talent-manager Wyngard Tracy, singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid and singer-actress-host Jolina Magdangal witnessed the drama behind each and every dreamer.

Unexpected cheers, failures and missed high notes dominated the entire scenario. Idol hopefuls strikingly belted their stuff against the snooping judgment of the three members of the jury. As they were roasted in front, all were lugged with optimism of bringing home one coveted golden ticket as their pass to enter the gate of stardom and compete to become the first-ever Pinoy Idol. Some received complementary notes and praises from the judges after delivering suave and promising performances.

However, the unfortunate ones who were unsuccessful in giving justice to their songs and got the ire of the judges packed up and went home beaten down with their disparaging yet constructive remarks.

There was an overwhelming outpour of emotions. Those who luckily got the nod of the judges were exalting with joy and screaming with pride. But the hapless ones were covered with tears and unbearable disappointment.

Frustration engulfed their hopes of bagging a chance to contend in the Idol finals. All geared up to lend support and comfort to the hopefuls was maverick host Raymond Gutierrez. He was in his element as the cushion of the not-so-fortunate aspirants and was able to boost their sinking spirit.

GMA-7 holds the airing rights of the Idol franchise which is owned by Fremantle. The competition is a huge hit in several countries around the world which continuously breeds talented singing artists. It also boasts of acquiring the license of other Fremantle shows like “Celebrity Duets” and “Whammy”. (Press release)
