Thursday, May 01, 2008 Botswanian nabbed for ‘human trafficking’
HIS surname was not fortunate after all.
This after a Botswanian national suspected to be involved in the international human trafficking scheme was caught by immigration agents at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia).
The suspect, Peter Lucky, was arrested on April 26 before he could board a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight to Vancouver for possession of spurious and fake travel documents.
“The international human trafficking syndicates want to get back to business in using Manila as transit point in the entry to other destinations,” Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said.
The African was sent back to Kuala Lumpur hours after he was apprehended and is now in the blacklist of undesirable aliens and cannot re-enter the country.
Lucky arrived at the old Naia terminal as a transit passenger from Malaysia the day before he was apprehended.
When questioned, the African, who claimed he was a student in Malaysia, presented his Botswana passport, which turned out to be tampered and contained fake immigration arrival stamps.
He also could not explain why he was going to Canada, which made the immigration officers more suspicious and doubtful of his trip’s purpose. (FP/Sunnex)
