Actor sued over breach of contract

AFTER deciding to make a comeback in Philippine entertainment industry, actor Gabby Concepcion is now busy not only with his acting career, but also attending court hearings.

In a report from GMA-7 news, columnist-host Jobert Sucaldito filed charges against Concepcion and his manager Rose Flaminiano last Wednesday for allegedly withdrawing an endorsement deal brokered by the writer.

According to Sucaldito, he had a verbal agreement with Concepcion and Flaminiano to endorse a skin-whitening product.

However, the columnist later learned that Concepcion already signed a deal to endorse a competing product.

Sucaldito filed a lawsuit before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) and he is filing for complaints for damages worth P2.8 million against Concepcion and Flaminiano for not continuing the project.

"What is unfair to me is that they have not told me that they have other negotiations and right after we have scheduled for contract signing April 24 they had talked to me and they told me that they already signed for another product which is a direct competitor," Sucaldito said.

For the camp of Flaminiano, they are not denying that they had signed the contract of the product that has bigger offer of P5 million than Sucaldito's offered talent fee of P2.5 million.

"For my part, Gabby is my talent and it is natural that the best interest for Gabby would I accept," she said.

They said they are also scheduled to file a countersuit case of libel against the columnist, adding that it is not true that they had agreed with the project.

Last Monday, Concepcion pleaded not guilty to his arraignment for bigamy charges before the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC). This stemmed from his marriage with actress Sharon Cuneta in 1984 as the actor was allegedly already married to certain Jennifer Martin in the US. The court set the pre-trial on May 8.

Last Wednesday, the actor also entered into a not guilty plea to falsification of public document pending with the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC). This case also stemmed from his alleged marriage to Martin and then to Sharon. The actor earlier posted P6,000 bail with the MTC in connection with this. (JRDB/Sunnex)
