NPC party mulls Legarda-Escudero tandem in 2010 polls
THE Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) party considers putting up its own slate for the 2010 elections with Senators Loren Legarda and Francis Escudero possibly running for president and vice president, respectively.
NPC secretary general and Rizal Representative Michael John Duavit said the party is contemplating on forming an entire slate especially since the two, who both topped the last senatorial elections, are rating good in the surveys.

"Well, as you know, we have a very good material. We can make an entire slate and really go for the presidency. Looking at the surveys now, I think we are capable," he said.
Legarda and Escudero respectively ranked first and second in the 2007 senatorial election.
Duavit said the party has yet to reach a consensus on the matter, adding that it is also still too early to reveal its cards.
However, another congressman also belonging to the party said NPC founder and business tycoon Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. is likely to support Escudero as the party's standard-bearer since Legarda is originally from Lakas.
"He (Escudero) is close to Danding (Cojuangco)," said the source.
Legarda reportedly sought Cojuangco's blessing to be his running mate in the 2004 presidential elections, but she later joined the opposition's Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP) and ran as Fernando Poe Jr.'s running mate after the businessman declined offers to run for president.
Duavit said the NPC, an administration ally, might join the opposition in case it decides to support another set of presidential, vice presidential and senatorial candidates in 2010. (WV/Sunnex)
