3 ‘robbers’ killed in shootout

THREE of the four suspected robbers were killed after they engaged Cavite policemen in a shootout in General Trias town in the province last Wednesday, a police official said.

Inspector Pamela Helaga, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A which covers Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon (Calabarzon), identified the slain suspects as Noel Batula, 25; Erwin Globio, 30; and Jerry dela Cruz, 29. The fourth still unidentified suspect escaped.

Helaga said their men were conducting checkpoint operation in Barangay Pasong Camachile 2 when they blocked the suspects on board two motorcycles for a search.

The suspects evaded the police barricade and drove away, which prompted the policemen to give a chase.

“Initial investigation disclosed that the four suspects fired upon the responding policemen when they were cornered after a brief chase when they drove past the checkpoint set up by the policemen,” said Helaga.

Recovered from the suspects were two caliber .45 pistols (Mark 1V), one caliber .357 Smith & Wesson revolver with four spent shells, two live ammunitions for .357 caliber revolver, credit card bearing the name of Michael De Castro, and the two motorcycles (Barako and XRM).

Helaga said the police patrol car that chased the suspects incurred damages on its left tire and headlight.

Bodies of the slain suspects were brought to Alindog Funeral Services in Barangay Salitaran, Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Follow up operations are being conducted to arrest the other suspect. (VR/Sunnex)
