Saturday, May 10, 2008 Sine Totoo unveils Pinoys' 'honesty'
ARE Filipinos honest or corrupt?
On Saturday Sine Totoo presents Imbestigador's "Pinoy, Tapat Ka Ba?" episode.
In this special, which won the 2006 Catholic Mass Media Award for Best Public Service Program, Imbestigador uncovers not the wrongdoing but the potential good in the average Pinoy.
In a social experiment conducted by the show, an asset travels the busy streets of Metro Manila. From the business centers to urban poor communities, he drops a wallet containing 200 pesos. Imbestigador's hidden cameras capture the experiment's fascinating results.
Imbestigador, true to its name, also shows dishonest public servants -- those who come to work only to time in and out, those who spend more time in the malls than in their offices and those who receive kickbacks on the side simply for signing papers.
Imbestigador's search for honest Filipinos eventually leads them to Basco, Batanes, where they find a small coffee shop that operates unmanned.
Customers pick whatever they want from the shop then drop their payment in a cashbox. For more than 10 years, Honesty Café has thrived because of the trustworthiness of its patrons.
On the set with Sine Totoo host Howie Severino, Mike Enriquez and Imbestigador producer Vera Daffon discuss the unexpected results of their citywide wallet experiment. (Press release)
