Monday, June 02, 2008 Dureza orders probe on 'MILF' involvement in Zambo blast
OUTGOING Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza ordered the government chairman on the ceasefire committee to undertake preliminary investigations into the Zamboanga del Norte blast following reports that some commanders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) are involved in the incident.
Dureza ordered Brigadier General Rey Sealana, Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) ceasefire committee chairman, to convince his counterpart from the MILF to start the investigations "due to (the) initial disturbing reports."
"Whatever the probe results are, the ceasefire mechanisms are adequate and time- tested to address these concerns. In the meantime, let's all wait for the results," he said.
Dureza stressed the urgency of arresting and bringing to justice those "responsible for these barbaric acts. Otherwise, impunity sets in and violence will continue to terrorize our citizens".
The MILF earlier denied involvement in the blast that killed three persons and injured 12 others. (JMR/Sunnex)
