Pakistani couple robbed

ADD a Pakistani couple to the growing list of bank clients that have been victimized by robbery groups in the southern part of Metro Manila.

This after three unidentified men aboard a black car mugged Dr. Mohammad Khali Omar and his wife Chingbee de los Reyes just before Friday in front of a school in Muntinlupa.

Mohammad, 41, of 206 Quezon St., Poblacion, Muntinlupa, is still confined at the Muntinlupa Medical Center after suffering two bullet wounds in the stomach. Chingbee, on the other hand, was unscathed.

Police investigator Roberto Lanting said the robbery took place at 11:30 a.m. Friday in front of Cosmopolitan School along National Road in Poblacion.

The couple was walking on their way home with P120,000 in cash when two armed men alighted from a black sedan and announced the robbery. Mohammad reportedly resisted, prompting one of the gunmen to shoot him.

The robbers took Chingbee's bag containing the amount and then sped off with a third man driven the car, Lanting said.

The couple had just withdrawn the money from a bank situated near the crime site. Still, the two could consider themselves lucky, given the fate of other robbery victims.

On June 6, Antonio Buenamente, 44, was shot dead for refusing to give up about P1 million in cash to motorcycle-riding robbers in Makati City. He had just withdrawn the amount from a Banco De Oro (BDO) branch.

Also, six gunmen robbed and killed messenger Jaime Armando Cortez after he refused to part with the P130,000 he withdrew from a Metro bank branch in San Antonio, Makati. (AH/Sunnex)
