Saturday, June 28, 2008 Boy confirms Greta's credit card tiff; denies couple's break-up
AFTER weeks of silence, one of Gretchen Barretto's close friends and manager Boy Abunda has finally spoken on the controversies beleaguering the actress.
In a five-star hotel restaurant, Gretchen's credit card was rejected as she used it to pay for the dinner she had with showbiz friends Ruffa Gutierrez and Pops Fernandez and a non-showbiz friend named Josie.
Boy said Gretchen thought her credit card was cut by partner Tonyboy Cojuangco, whom the actress immediately called. Tony Boy went to the hotel and the two allegedly argued.
Boy said the incident happened, but denied that Gretchen's credit card was cut. He claimed that the magnet of the machine in the hotel had a problem not the card.
"Gretch texted Tonyboy and in fairness to him he arrived in two minutes," Boy added.
Boy also dismissed rumors that Tonyboy and Gretchen broke up after, saying their argument that night was not enough for them to part ways.
"It is not true that they separated. They are together as we talk. They are in one house," he stressed.
Meanwhile, Boy downplayed the issue that Tonyboy got mad at Gretchen because he was compared to Ruffa's estranged husband Yilmaz Bektas.
Ruffa allegedly shared to Gretchen her past experience with ex-husband when Yilmaz once cut the actress' credit cards on her way back to the Philippines from Istanbul (where she stayed when still with Yilmaz).
Boy said he is not aware of that issue, but affirmed that Tonyboy was annoyed as Gretchen should have brought cash instead or other credit cards.
"It's not Tonyboy's character, so it's likely for Tonyboy to get angry because he was judged that way - let's not involve other people," Boy claimed.
When Gretchen's card was rejected, reports in the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) said Gretchen told the waiter, "That cannot be. We own the bank!"
Boy said, "I will not confirm that, I will not deny that because I don't know. I don't know if she said that." (JRDB/Sunnex)
