Monday, June 30, 2008 More than 30 radio stations in Central Visayas broadcast as one
The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) in Central Visayas launches a region-wide radiothon on June 30 to collect relief goods and cash donations for the typhoon victims in the Visayas.
The KBP Radiothon will be participated in by more than 30 AM and FM stations in the provinces of Cebu, Bohol and Negros Oriental.
All member stations will broadcast as one from 6:10 a.m. to 6:50 a.m. Most of the AM stations will sustain the radiothon until Monday afternoon while FM stations will resume their normal programming.
During the radiothon, the managers and anchors of member stations will take turns in appealing for assistance for the typhoon victims.
They will also update the listeners on the on-going search and rescue operations for the missing passengers of MV Princess of the Stars, as well as the rehabilitation of the region's cities and municipalities hardest hit by typhoon Frank.
Representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard, Sulpicio Lines, Cebu City government, NBI and other agencies will also attend the radiothon to address the concerns of the victims' families.
Listeners can bring their donations to Fuente Osmena Rotunda, where the radiothon will be anchored, or to TV and radio stations nearest them.
They can also deposit cash donations in any branch of Aspac Bank through bank account no. 2-201-3187-4.
Aspac has 13 branches in Cebu: EMall, Carbon, Banilad, Mandaue City, Lapulapu City, Talisay City, Consolacion, Danao City, Tabogon, Bogo City, Bantayan, Carcar City and Toledo City.
The KBP Radiothon is a joint project of three chapters: KBP Cebu headed by Leo Lastimosa; KBP Bohol headed by Peter Dejaresco and KBP Negros Oriental headed by Roy Bustillo.
