FOUR suspected carjackers were killed after they engaged the policemen in a shootout in Antipolo City early Monday morning.
Rizal Police Provincial Director Ireneo Dordas identified the fatalities as Armando Fuentes, 36, of San Mateo, Rizal; Abelardo Junia, 33, of Sangandaan, Quezon City; Cesar Vellapando, 36, of Rosario, Batangas; and Marlon Mansano, 29, of Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City.
Dordas said his men were conducting a checkpoint in Barangay San Jose at 2 a.m. Monday when they flagged down a red Mitsubishi Adventure.
Police said the vehicle did not have a plate number.
Instead of stopping, the suspects sped off, prompting the policemen to give a chase that ended at Sitio Putting Bato in the said village. The suspects allegedly fired at the policemen first.
A verification made with the Land Transportation Authorities (LTO) revealed that the car is registered in the name of Mario Villanio.
Dordas said the vehicle was reported stolen last Saturday.
Recovered from the suspects were a caliber .45 pistol, two fragmentation grenade and three caliber .38 revolvers as well as receipts, documents and the plate number ZBT-825. (AH/Sunnex)
